AD/B737/280 Aileron Tab (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | Model 737-100, -200, and -200C series aircraft, with magnesium aileron tab mast fittings and magnesium aileron tab hinge fittings installed. |
Requirement: | Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 69-12-06 Note: Boeing Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) 57-1040, dated 26 May 1969, refers. |
Compliance: | As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of Note: Replacement of the magnesium aileron tab mast fittings with aluminium tab mast fittings in accordance with SB 57-1040; and the tab control rods replaced with adjustable tab control rods, installed in accordance with SB 27-1025; and replacement of the magnesium aileron tab hinge fittings with aluminium aileron tab hinge fittings, in accordance with ASB 57-1040; constitutes terminating action for the repeat inspection requirements of this Directive. |

Background: | This Directive requires inspections to detect cracking in the lugs of the aileron tab mast fittings and the flanges of the aileron tab hinge fittings. |
