AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/B737/262 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B737/262 Amdt 1 Wing Outboard Flap Inboard Flap Track 4/2006

Applicability:

Model 737-100, -200, and -200C series aircraft on which the left or right hand inboard flap tracks of the wing outboard flap have a part number listed in Table 1 of FAA AD 2000-25-07.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2000-25-07
Amdt 39-12041.

Performance of inspections defined in Boeing Service Bulletin 737-57A1271, Part 3.B WORK INSTRUCTIONS – “INSPECTION – TRACK WEB AND FLANGES” is an acceptable alternative means of compliance (AMOC) to the inspection methods and corrective action required by paragraphs (a) and (b) of FAA AD 2000-25-07.  All other provisions of FAA AD 2000-25-07 remain fully effective and must be complied with.

Note:  Original Boeing All Operator message M-7200-00-01854, dated 27 July 2000, refers.  Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 737-57A1271 dated 11 September 2003 contains the accomplishment instructions and details of the AMOC provisions.

Compliance:

As specified in the requirement document.

This Amendment becomes effective on 13 April 2006.

Background:

The FAA received a report indicating that cracking of the aft end of an inboard flap track of the wing outboard flap was fond on a model 737-200 series aircraft with improved flap tracks installed.  Further investigation revealed that the cracks were caused by corrosion at the fasteners that attach the fail-safe bar to the inner and outer webs.  Such cracking, unless detected and corrected, could result in the loss of the outboard trailing edge flap and consequent loss of controllability of the aircraft.

This amendment allows the use of an FAA approved alternative means of compliance (AMOC) for an inspection and corrective action that is specified in FAA AD
2000-25-07.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on
22 December 2005.
