AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B737/257 Bendix Main Wheel 13/2005

Applicability:

Model 737-100 and -200 series aircraft equipped with Bendix main wheel assembly part number 2601571-1.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 98-26-24
Amdt 39-10967.

Note:  Bendix Service Information Letter 392 Revision 1 and Allied Signal Service Bulletin No. 737-32-026 dated 27 June 1998 including Attachment 1 dated
17 January 1978 and Attachment 2 dated 27 June 1988, or later FAA approved revisions/attachments, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
22 December 2005.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 December 2005.

Background:

This Directive requires replacement of certain wheel halves with improved wheel halves and inspections for corrosion, missing paint, or cracks, and repair and replacement if necessary.  The actions specified by this Directive are intended to prevent failure of the wheel flanges, which could result in damage to the hydraulic systems, jammed flight controls, loss of electrical power, or other combinations of failures.
