AD/B737/245 Secondary Fuel Vapor Barrier (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B737/245 Secondary Fuel Vapor Barrier 9/2005

Applicability:

Models 737-200, -200C, -300, -400, and -500 series aircraft, line numbers 311 through 3132.

Models 737-600, -700, -700C, -800, and -900 series aircraft, line numbers 1 through 1088, and 1090 through 1134.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2005-13-15 Amdt 39-14152.

Note:  Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletins 737-57-1261 and 737-57-1250 Revision 1, or later FAA approved revisions, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 1 September 2005.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 September 2005.

Background:

The FAA received reports that the secondary fuel vapour barrier was not applied correctly to, or was missing from, certain areas of the wing centre section.  The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent fuel or fuel vapours from leaking into the cargo or passenger compartments and coming into contact with a possible ignition source, which could result in fire or explosion.
