AD/B717/29 Airworthiness Limitations Fuel System Safety (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 717 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | All Model 717-200 aeroplanes. |
Requirement: | Revise the Airworthiness Limitations (AWL) section of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) to incorporate the information specified in Appendixes B, C, and D of Report MDC-92K9145. |

| Accomplishing the revision in accordance with a later revision of Report | |
| After accomplishing the AWL revision specified above, no alternative inspections, inspection intervals, or Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL) may be used unless the inspections, intervals or CDCCLs are part of a later revision of Report MDC- 92K9145 that is approved by the Manager, Los Angeles ACO; or unless the inspections, intervals or CDCCLs are approved as an AMOC to FAA AD 2008-11-15 by the Manager, Los Angeles ACO. | |

| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 31 July 2008. |
Background: | This Directive results from a design review of the fuel tank systems. The Directive is issued to prevent the potential for ignition sources inside fuel tanks caused by latent failures, alterations, repairs or maintenance actions, which, in combination with flammable fuel vapours, could result in a fuel tank explosion and consequent loss of the aeroplane. |
