AD/ATR 42/4 Passenger/Crew Door Lifting Device (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | ATR 42-300 and -320 aircraft that incorporate Service Bulletin (SB) ATR |
Requirement: | 1. Inspect and if required, repair the passenger/crew door lifting device compensation rod and its fail safe cable in accordance with paragraph A of SB ATR 42-52-0042 or later NAA approved revision. 2. Carry out installation of the improved passenger/crew door lifting device compensation rod and its fail safe cable as detailed in paragraph B of SB ATR 42-52-0042 or later NAA approved revision. Note: DGAC AD 89-138-024(B)R1 dated 21 February 1990 refers. |
Compliance: | 1. Initial inspection within 30 days of the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished, thereafter at intervals not to exceed 250 flight hours. 2. Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished. |

Background: | The requirements of this AD are intended to prevent simultaneous rupture of the passenger/crew door lifting device and its fails safe cable. |
