AD/As 355/92 Starter Generator (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Eurocopter AS 355 (Twin Ecureuil) Series Helicopters

AD/AS 355/92 Starter Generator 2/2007

Applicability:	All AS 355 N helicopters equipped with starter generators, all part numbers, without MOD 073344.
Requirement:	Install a placard indicating a revised maximum generator load above 10 000 feet, on the instrument panel, below the ammeter, in accordance with the instructions specified in paragraph 2.B. of Eurocopter AS 355 Alert Service Bulletin No 01.00.52 or later approved revision.

Compliance:	No later than 110 hours time in service or 12 months after the effective date of this Directive, which ever occurs first.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 15 February 2007.
Background:	This Directive introduces a new placard on the instrument panel below the ammeter advising of that the maximum generator load at altitudes above 10 000 feet is 100 Amperes.  This revised limitation is introduced as generator load above 10 000 feet can cause excessive power consumption thus reducing the engine margin which can result in engine failure.
