AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Turbomeca Turbine Engines - Arriel Series

AD/ARRIEL/23 Start Electro Valve - Fuel Leaks 6/2006

Applicability:

TURBOMECA Arriel 1 Series Turbo shaft engines.

Requirement:

Inspect for looseness on the tee coupling on the start electro valve and ensure correct and proper assembly in accordance with Turbomeca alert service bulletin (ASB) number A292 73 0251 revision 2 dated 05 February 2002 or later approved revisions.

Note:  EASA Airworthiness Directive (AD) No 2006-0068 dated 24 March 2006 refers.

Compliance:

With in one month, after the effective date of this AD, unless accomplished earlier.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 8 June 2006.

Background:

During engine operations, fuel leaks at the level of start electro valve fuel coupling were observed.  These fuel leaks my result in fire or a lack of power or an uncommanded in-flight shutdown.
