AMD Falcon 50 and 900 Series Aeroplanes

AD/AMD 50/39 Third Crew Member Oxygen Box 13/2006 DM

Applicability:

Mystere Falcon 900 airplanes, ranging from serial number (S/N) 1 to S/N 202 inclusive, without modification M5213 or M5236 and equipped with a 3rd crew member passenger-type oxygen mask on the cockpit ceiling.

Falcon 900EX airplanes, ranging from S/N 1 to S/N 156 inclusive, without modification M5213 or M5236 and equipped with a 3rd crew member passenger-type oxygen mask on the cockpit ceiling.

Requirement:

1.    Carry out a detailed inspection for chaffing and any other damage, together with any necessary corrective actions, of the electrical feeder cables located in the cockpit behind the third crew member O2 box.

2.    Modify the routing and the protection of the electrical feeder cables located in the cockpit behind the third crew member O2 box in accordance with Dassault Aviation Service Bulletin (SB) F900-366 or F900EX-277, as appropriate, or later approved revisions.

Note 1:  SBs F900-366 or F900EX-277 cover the Dassault Aviation modification M5213.

Note 2:  EASA Emergency AD 2006-0330-E refers.

Compliance:

For Requirements 1 and 2 - Within one calendar month or 30 flights, whichever occurs first, after the effective date of this Directive.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 31 October 2006.

Background:

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has advised that a drawing review and further associated inspections on aircraft have highlighted a potential chafing risk between the third crew member oxygen mask box, optionally installed in the cockpit ceiling, and electrical feeder cables routed in the area.

This situation, if not corrected, could generate smoke or fire, which could be fanned by oxygen leakage from the box.
