AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A330 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A330/70 MLG Rib 6 Aft Bearing Lugs 2/2007 DM

Applicability:

All Model A330-200 and A330-300 series aircraft, all serial numbers, except aircraft with Airbus modification 49353 incorporated in production or Airbus Service Bulletin A330-57-3082 incorporated in service, on both wings.

Note:  Aircraft repaired on both wings in accordance with Repair Drawing R572.56230 (or SRM 57-26-13 PB 201) are not affected by this Directive.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA Emergency AD 2006-0364-E.

Note:  Airbus Service Bulletin A330-57A3096 original issue, or later EASA approved revision, refers.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
14 December 2006.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 14 December 2006.

Background:

A crack was detected visually during main landing gear (MLG) lubrication, in the MLG Rib 6 aft bearing forward lug on an in-service A330 aircraft.  Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the cracking.  This situation, if not corrected, could affect the structural integrity of the MLG attachment.
