AD/A330/4 Amdt 1 THSA Operational Life Limit (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/A330/4 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A330 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A330/4 Amdt 1 THSA - Operational Life Limit 3/2005

Applicability:

All Model A330 aircraft.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of DGAC AD F-2005-014.

Note:  Airbus Service Bulletins A330-27-3052, A330-27-3085, and A330-27-3093, original issues, or a later EASA approved revision, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document.

This Amendment becomes effective on 17 March 2005.

Background:

The operational life limits of aircraft flight controls actuators as specified in the aircraft maintenance manual are not addressed by the definition of the structural life limits of Safe Life Items as defined in the MPD Section 9, which replaces Aircraft Maintenance Manual Chapter 05-11-00.  As a result, these life limits are removed from the above documents and integrated into this Directive.  This Directive requires Trimmable Horizontal Stabiliser Actuator (THSA) modification upon reaching the calculated operational life limit.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new DGAC AD, which increases the life limit for certain part number THSA following further test results.
