AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/A330/31 Amdt 3 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/A330/31 Amdt 4 Airworthiness Limitations Items - Time Limits/Maintenance Checks 8/2009

Applicability:

Model A330-201, -202, -203, -223, -243, -301, -302, -303, -321, -322, -323, -341,
-342 and -343 aircraft, all serial numbers.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2009-0102.

Note:  AIRBUS A330 ALI Document reference AI/SE-M4/95A.0089/97 issue 16, approved 4 November 2008, or later EASA approved revision, refers.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
30 July 2009.

This Amendment becomes effective on 30 July 2009.

Background:

The certification requirement for damage tolerant structure is provided in
AIRBUS MPD subsection 9-2 (Airworthiness Limitations Items).  Document
AI/SE-M4/95A.0089/97 referenced in MPD subsection 9-2, is officially an appendix of AIRBUS A330 Maintenance Review Board Report.

Amendment 1 introduced the latest issue of the maintenance planning document.

Amendment 2 introduced the latest issue of the Requirement document.  The limitations for Damage-Tolerant Airworthiness Limitations Items (DT ALI) are currently listed in AIRBUS A330 ALI document reference AI/SE-M4/95A.0089/97, which is referenced in AIRBUS A330 Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS)
Part 2.

Amendment 3 mandated compliance with the requirements defined in AIRBUS A330 ALI document reference AI/SE-M4/95A.0089/97 issue 15, which introduced more restrictive limitations.

Amendment 4 is issued in response to a new EASA AD, which retains the requirements of EASA AD 2008-0023 (AD/A330/31 Amdt 3) and EASA AD
2006-0125 (AD/A330/61), which are superseded, and requires the implementation
of the new airworthiness limitations as specified in AIRBUS A330 ALI Document issue 16.
