AD/A330/26 Amdt 1 Spoiler Servo-Controls Life Limitations 9/2006

Requirement:

For AIRBUS A330-200 series aircraft.

1.    Identify the Part Number (P/N) of all S4 and MZ type spoiler servo-controls installed on the aircraft, in accordance with AIRBUS Service Bulletin (SB) A330-27-3113 or later DGAC approved revision.

2.    Remove from service any S4 or MZ type spoiler servo-controls and replace with 138X type spoiler servo-controls in accordance with AIRBUS SB A330-27-3113 or later DGAC approved revision.  S4 or MZ type servo-controls removed from A330-200 series aircraft shall be scrapped.

A330-200 series aircraft which have embodied in service SB A330-27-3113 at original issue or revision 01, 02 or 03 are in compliance with Requirement 1 and 2 of this AD.

For AIRBUS A330-300 series aircraft.

3.Identify the P/N of all spoiler servo-controls installed on the aircraft, in accordance with AIRBUS SB A330-27-3113 or later DGAC approved revision.  If the P/N of the spoiler servo-control is MZ type or 138X type, no further action is required.

4.    Remove from service any S4 type spoiler servo-control and replace with a 138X type spoiler servo-control in accordance with AIRBUS SB A330-27-3113 Revision 04 or later DGAC approved revision.  S4 type servo-controls removed from A330-300 series aircraft shall be scrapped.

A330-300 series aircraft which have embodied in service SB A330-27-3113 Revision 03 are in compliance with Requirement 3 and 4 of this Airworthiness Directive.

Note:  EASA AD 2006-0159 dated 7 June 2006 refers. This Airworthiness Directive supersedes DGAC 2003-357(B).

Compliance:

1.    Remains unchanged as detailed in the original issue of this AD as: No later than March 31, 2004.

2.    Before reaching 6,000 Flight Cycles (FC) for servo-controls fitted in positions 2 to 6, and 11,000 FC for servo-controls fitted in position 1.

3.    Within 60 days after the effective date of this AD.

4.    Before reaching 14,000 cycles since new (CSN) for servo-controls installed in positions 2 to 6, and 15,000 CSN for servo-controls installed in position 1.

If the S4 type spoiler servo-control accumulated life is unknown, apply the aircraft accumulated cycle count at the time of identification.

This Amendment becomes effective on 31 August 2006.

Background:

In order to prevent cracking of the servo-control, which could lead to loss of function as well as the loss of the three hydraulic systems, this Airworthiness Directive requires the removal before the servo-control reaches its operating life limit.

This amendment includes 300 series aircraft to the applicability section of the Airworthiness Directive. S4 spoiler servo-controls now have a life limit when installed on A330-300 series aircraft.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 25 December 2003.
