Airbus Industrie A330 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A330/13 Amdt 6 Life Limits/Monitored Parts 10/2008 DM

Applicability:

All Model A330 aircraft, all serial numbers.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2008-0152.

Note:  Airbus A330 ALS Part 1, Revision 02 approved 28 April 2008, or later EASA approved revision, refers.

Compliance:

From the effective date of this Directive.

This Amendment becomes effective on 22 August 2008.

Background:

Airbus A330 aircraft life limited parts have been transferred from Aircraft Maintenance Manual Chapter 05 to the Life Limits/Monitored Parts Section 9-1 of Airworthiness Limitations Section 9 of the MPD.  Airbus issued A330 MPD sub-sections 9-1-2 and 9-1-3 at Revision 01 to introduce some new life-limited parts and to change the values of some limits (original limit decrease and/or incorporation of flight hour limitations).

Amendment 1 introduced Revision 03 of Airbus A330 MPD subsection 9-1, which was issued to change the values of some limits already listed (original limit decrease and/or incorporation of a Flight Hours limitation).

Amendment 2 introduced Revision 04 of A330 MPD subsection 9-1 to include Models A330-302 and A330-303 aircraft, and to increase life limitations values for “Growth” Landing Gear parts; while the values of some limitations already listed were decreased.

Amendment 3 introduced Revision 05 of Airbus A330 MPD subsection 9-1 which was issued to introduce the A330-202 and A330-302 weight variant 53, and to introduce new part numbers for some items already listed.  However, the values of some limitations already listed were decreased.

Amendment 4 introduced the transfer of the list of Safe Life Airworthiness Limitations Items (SL ALI) into the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS), and the limitations applicable to SL ALI are now listed in the ALS Part 1, which is approved by EASA.

Amendment 5 was issued in response to a new EASA AD, which was prompted by Revision 01 of Airbus A330 ALS Part 1 which was issued to introduce the A330-201, -202, -203, -223 weight variant 023; and the A330-201, -202, -203, -223, -243 weight variant 056.  Further, the values of some limitations assigned to items already listed were reduced and the list of the wing structure SL ALI part numbers were amended.  Furthermore Revision 01 of the A330 Part 1 is addressing the life limit requirements on the MLG retraction link, mandated earlier by EASA Emergency AD 2006-0324-E (AD/A330/65), which is superseded by this Directive.

Amendment 6 is issued in response to EASA AD 2008-0152 (supersedes EASA AD 2007-0133), which was prompted by Revision 02 of Airbus A330 ALS Part 1. Revision 02 of Airbus A330 ALS Part 1 was issued to introduce life limitation restrictions for:

-     MLG main fittings, bogie beams, sliding pistons made of material with deficient  fatigue properties, and

-     MLG retraction actuator cylinders and pivot link bracket bolt.
