AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A320/216 IAE V2500 Engine Fan Cowl Latch 6/2008

Applicability:

Model A319-131, -132, and -133 aircraft, Model A320-231, -232, and -233 aircraft, and Model A321-131 and -231 aircraft; all serial numbers, except aircraft with the following AIRBUS modifications incorporated in production or service bulletin incorporated in service:

Modifications 21948/P6222 and 30869, or modifications 24259/P6222 and 30869, or modifications 24259/P6222 and 24259/P6473; or,

Service Bulletin A320-71-1028 original issue, or later DGAC/EASA approved revision.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with DGAC AD F-2001-381(B).

Compliance:

Unless already accomplished, before 5 July 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 5 June 2008.

Background:

Several cases of fan cowl losses have occurred during take off on AIRBUS aircraft equipped with IAE V2500 series engines.
