AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability:

All Model A319 series aircraft, all serial numbers, except aircraft with Airbus modifications 28238, 28162 and 28342; or 33421, incorporated in production.

All Model A320 series aircraft, all serial numbers, except aircraft with Airbus modification 33421 fully incorporated in production.

Note:  Airbus A320 aircraft serial numbers 2164 through 2688, with mod 33421 partially incorporated in production, are affected by the requirements of this Directive.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2007-0067.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
10 May 2007.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 10 May 2007.

Background:

Some taperlocks used in the wing-to-fuselage junction at Rib 1 were found to be non-compliant with the applicable specification, resulting in loss of pre-tension in the fasteners.  Such a condition, unless detected and corrected, could affect the structural integrity of the aircraft.
