AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A320/175 103VU Panel Hinge Pin 6/2005

Applicability:

Models A318, A319, A320, and A321 aircraft, with all manufactured serial numbers (MSN) up to and including MSN 2396, except MSN 2104, 2143, 2248, 2270, 2347, 2366, 2372, 2376, 2384, 2386, 2388, 2390, 2391, 2393, and 2395.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with paragraph 4.2 of Airbus All Operator Telex (AOT) 25A1440, dated 15 February 2005.

Note:  DGAC AD F-2005-052 R1 refers.

Compliance:

Within 600 flight hours after 9 June 2005, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 9 June 2005.

Background:

Heat damaged and severed electrical wires were found in several 103VU panels.  Investigation revealed a contact between the panel horizontal hinge pin and adjacent electrical harness.  This Directive requires an inspection of the electrical harness and the hinge pin for security.
