Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A320/173 DASELL Toilet Walls Corrosion 6/2005

Applicability:

All Model A319, A320, and A321 aircraft, equipped with:

Type A DASELL toilet, installed by Airbus Modification 23125, on to which at least one cabin attendant seat is attached; or,

Type D DASELL toilet, installed by Airbus Modification 22815, on to which at least one cabin attendant seat is attached; or,

Type E DASELL toilet, installed by Airbus Modification 22819, on to which at least one cabin attendant seat is attached; or,

Type F DASELL toilet, installed by Airbus Modification 23695, on to which a cabin attendant seat is attached.

Aircraft with toilet walls that have not been modified since the application of Airbus Modification 31574 in production are not affected by the requirements of this Directive.

No action is required by this Directive on the toilet walls that have been repaired as per the composite repair described in the applicable toilet CMM and on the toilet walls that have been replaced with a composite wall as described in the applicable toilet CMM.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of DGAC AD F-2005-046.

Note:  Airbus Service Bulletins A320-25-1365, A320-25-1289, and A320-25-1357, original issues, or later EASA approved revisions, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 9 June 2005.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 9 June 2005.

Background:

Reports were received of cracks on the floor adjacent the toilets on aircraft operated in the USA.  Investigation revealed that this cracking is the result of corrosion on the lower part of the toilet wall.  If corrosion is not detected and becomes extensive, the wall, onto which one or two cabin attendant seats are attached, may not support the required load case scenarios.
