AD/A320/163 Amdt 1 Wing Trailing Edge Cable Routes (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/A320/163 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321 series aeroplanes, all serial numbers, except those with either Airbus Modification 22626 embodied during production or Airbus Service Bulletin (SB) A320-24-1062 Revision 6 incorporated whilst in service. |
Requirement: | Install insulation (cable protection) to the “S” cable routes of the trailing edge. Aft of the rear spar and wing tip in accordance with the instructions of SB A320-24-1062 Revision 6, dated 26 June 2007, or later revision approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). |
| Previous accomplishment of SB A320-24-1062 at original issue, or at Revision 1, 2, 3 or 4 and the additional work as per paragraph 3.B.(4) of SB A320-24-1062 at Revision 5 is considered an acceptable method of compliance with the requirements of this Directive. | |

Compliance: | No later than 31 December 2009. |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 5 June 2008. | |
Background: | The original issue of this Directive required the modification of the trailing edge cable routes aft of the rear spar and wing tip providing a better insulation capability. The Directive was a consequence of the findings of a design review initiated by the Joint Aviation Authorities following the TWA800 in-flight explosion. |
