AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/A320/130 Amdt 2 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes

AD/A320/130 Amdt 3 Goodrich Carbon Brake  Take-off/Landing Performance Reduction 11/2005

Applicability:

All Model A319 and A320 aircraft which are equipped with Goodrich carbon brakes  part number 2-1526-4, 2-1526-5, 2-1572, 2-1598-1, 2-1600-1, 2-1600-2, or 2-1600-3, and installed in accordance with:

Airbus modification 24007, 24260, 25810, 30075, 31146, or 31803, in production, or,

Airbus Service Bulletin A320-32-1090, A320-32-1114, A320-32-1180,
A320-32-1221 (mod. 30485), A320-32-1228, or A320-1238, in service.

Aircraft that had Airbus modification 32311 incorporated in production are not affected by the requirements of this Directive.

Aircraft equipped with 4 Goodrich carbon SEPCARB III brakes part number
2-1600-3 on which brake mixability has been prohibited by application of Service Bulletin A320-32-1247 in service, are not affected by the requirements of this Directive.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of DGAC AD F-2001-499 R4.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document.

This Amendment becomes effective on 27 October 2005.

Background:

This Directive was prompted by the report of runway excursion while landing, due to the poor braking performance of the affected part number Goodrich Carbon Brakes.

Amendment 1 extended the applicable affected part numbers.

Amendment 2 deleted the limitations to SA3D brakes once they had accumulated 240 flight cycles.

Amendment 3 is issued in response to a revision of the related DGAC AD, which clarifies applicability.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 31 October 2001.
