AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Agusta A109 Series Helicopters

AD/A109/57 Cargo Hook Installation - 2 8/2007 DM

Applicability:

Model A109E, A109S, A109LUH helicopters, equipped with a single or double cargo hook installations with the following part numbers; and which incorporate the hook part number 528-010-01:

A109E             Single        109-0810-31-133;

Double      109-0810-31-133 and 109-0811-75-121;

A109S             Single        109-0810-31-145;

Double      109-0810-31-145 and 109-0811-75-127;

A109LUH       Single        109-0810-31-151.

Requirement:

Perform an inspection of the cargo hook lever part number 232-028-00 in accordance with Agusta Alert Service Bulletin 109EP-78, 109S-12, or 109L-006, as applicable.

If cracking is found the use of the cargo hook is prohibited.

Note:  EASA Emergency AD 2007-0160-E refers.

This Directive must be inserted in the pertinent Appendices/Supplements of the applicable RFM.

Compliance:

Before the next cargo hook operation after 14 June 2007, but at the latest by
31 August 2007.  Thereafter before each single operation of the cargo hook.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 14 June 2007.

Background:

The EASA received several reports of cracking of the cargo hook lever part number 232-028-00.
