An Act relating to the Citation of Acts

1. Short title

   This Act may be cited as the Acts Citation Act 1976.1

2. Commencement

   This Act shall come into operation on 1 August 1976.

1. Notwithstanding the repeal effected by subsection (1), an amendment that was, immediately before the date of commencement of this Act, to be deemed to be in force by virtue of the provision repealed by subsection (1) continues in force, subject to section 7 and to any other law of the Territory coming into operation on or after that date.

2. Short titles of amended Acts

   Where—

   (a)immediately before the commencement of this Act, an Act was in force as amended; and

(b)by virtue of section 3 of the Amendments Incorporation Act 1929 as amended and in force at any time, the Act was to be deemed to contain a provision that the Act may be cited by a method of citation that contains figures referring to 2 years,

that provision is amended by omitting so much of the method of citation as follows the reference to the first of those years.

1.  Act No. 30, 1976; notified in the ACT Gazette on 28 July 1976; commenced on 28 July 1976, repealed by Statute Law Amendment Act 2001 A2001-11 sch 4 pt 4.4 on 29 March 2001 (s 2 and Gaz 2001 No 13).

Citation of Laws—The Self-Government (Citation of Laws) Act 1989 (No. 21, 1989) altered the citation of most Ordinances so that after Self-Government day they are to be cited as Acts.  That Act also affects references in ACT laws to Commonwealth Acts.

2.  Ss. 3-5 and subsection 6 (1)—The amendments made by sections 3-5 and subsection 6 (1) are amendments to other Acts which are published separately.
