AN ACT to amend certain Acts so as to provide for the adjustment of certain allowances and salaries.

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Acts Amendment

(Allowances and Salaries Adjustment) Act, 1947.

Provided that-

(i)    a member of the Legislative Council or a member of the Legislative Assembly, who is elected for an Electoral Province or an Electoral District, as the ease may be, ally part of the boundaries of either of which is outside the area of an imaginary circle having a radius of fifty miles from Parliament House at Perth in the State, shall be entitled to receive an allowance at the rate of fifty pounds a year, in addition to the respective allowance, to which he is entitled under para- graph (a) or paragraph (b) of this. section,

(ii) one member of the Legislative. Assembly, namely, the member,. who, for the time being, is recog- nised as the Leader of the Opposi- tion, shall be entitled to receive an allowance at the rate of five hundred pounds a year in addition to the allowance referred to in paragraph (b) of this section and, when paragraph (i) of this proviso is applicable, in addition to the allowance referred to in that para- graph, and

(iii)    while holding any of the eight prin- cipal executive offices of the Gov- ernment, liable to be vacated on political grounds, a member of the Legislative Council or a member of the Legislative Assembly shall be entitled. to receive all the allow- ances to which he is entitled under this Act in addition to Ministerial salary to which he is entitled under the Constitution Acts Amendment Act, 1899-1.947.

Section six of the principal Act is repealed and substituted by the following section:—

6. (1) On and after the fifteenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven, the President of the Legislative Council and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly shall each be entitled to receive an allowance at the rate of one thousand three hundred and sixty pounds a year but while entitled to receive that allowance shall not be entitled to receive any of the allowances referred to in section three of this Act, save and except the allowance referred to in paragraph (i) of the proviso to that section when that paragraph is applicable.

(2) On and after the fifteenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven the Chair- man of Committees of the Legislative Council and the Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Assembly shall each be entitled to receive an allowance at the rate of one thousand one hundred and sixty pounds a year but while entitled to receive that allow- ance shall not be entitled to receive any of the allowances referred to in section three of this Act, save and except the allowance referred to in para- graph (i) of the proviso to that section when that paragraph is applicable.
