EDUCATION REFORM AMENDMENT ACT 1997 No 127—

PROCLAMATION*

GORDON SAMUELS, Governor.

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Education Reform Amendement Act 1997, do, by this my Proclamation appoint:

(a)

8 May 1998 as the day on which Schedule 1 [l], [3] and [6] to that Act commence, and

(b)

1 January 2000 as the day on which Schedule 1 [2], [4] and [5] commence.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to commence the uncommenced provisions of the

Education Reform Amendment Act 1997. The provisions that relate to changes to the School Certificate curriculum and assessment procedures and to the objects of the

Education Act 1990 are to commence on 8 May 1998 The other provisions which relate

to changes to the Higher School Certificate curriculum are to commence on 1 January

2000.

* The proclamation appointed 8.5.1998 as the date of commencement of Schedule 1 [ l ] ,

[3] and [6] to the Act. Pursuant to s 23 (5) of the InterpretationAct 1987, the proclamation does not fail merely because it was not published in the Gazette until after the day appointed in the proclamation, but S 23 (5) provides, in that event, for the Act to commence on the day on which the proclamation was published in the Gazette.
