Universities (Financial Assistance) (No. 2)

An Act to amend the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966–1968, as amended by the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1969.

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—
Short title and citation.
1.—(1.) This Act may be cited as the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act (No. 2) 1969.
(2) The Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966–1968, as amended by the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1969, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
(3.) Section 1 of the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1969 is amended by omitting sub-section (2.).
(4.) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966–1969.
Commencement.
2.—(1.) This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.
(2.) The amendments made to the Principal Act by this Act shall be deemed to have had effect from and including the twenty-sixth day of November, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-six.
Second Schedule.
3. The Second Schedule to the Principal Act is amended—
(a) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of New South Wales under the heading “Wollongong” the words and figures—
“Erection of building for Departments of Arts, Commerce and Science | 350,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of building and lecture theatre for Departments of Arts, Commerce and Science | 350,000”; |
(b) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of New England the words and figures—
“Erection of building for Faculty of Rural Science.............. | 350,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of buildings for Faculty of Rural Science............. | 350,000”; |
(c) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Melbourne the words and figures—
“Conversion of old Anatomy Building for teaching purposes, including electronics | 100,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Conversion of old Anatomy and old Pathology buildings for teaching purposes, including electronics | 100,000”; |
(d) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to La Trobe University the words and figures—
“Erection of building for Humanities and Social Sciences......... | 950,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of buildings for Humanities and Social Sciences......... | 950,000”; |
(e) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Queensland the words and figures—
“Erection of building for chemistry and pre-clinical dentistry....... | 500,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of building for chemistry........................ | 500,000”; |
(f) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Queensland the words and figures—
“Erection of building for Department of Mining and Metallurgy..... | 325,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of buildings for Department of Mining and Metallurgy.... | 325,000”; |
(g) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Queensland the words and figures—
“Erection at Moggill of building for veterinary clinical studies...... | 70,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection at Moggill of buildings for veterinary clinical studies..... | 70,000”; |
(h) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Western Australia the words and figures—
“Erection of glasshouses on main campus for Faculty of Agriculture.. | 14,000”; |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Erection of glasshouse and building to house growth cabinets on main campus for Faculty of Agriculture | 14,000”; |
(i) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Tasmania the words and figures—
“Completion of library and provision of accommodation for Faculty of Law | 405,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Completion of library................................ | 405,000”; |
and
(j) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the University of Tasmania the words and figures—
“Extensions to building for Department of Physics and erection of cosmic ray observatory | 50,000” |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Extensions to building for Department of Physics.............. | 50,000”. |
Fifth Schedule.
4. The Fifth Schedule to the Principal Act is amended—
(a) by omitting from the portion of the second and third columns relating to the Brisbane Women’s Hospital the words and figures—
“Erection of building to provide student quarters, seminar, tutorial, examination and demonstration rooms for the Departments of Neo-natal Paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology | 20,000”; |
and inserting in their stead the words and figures—
“Alterations to existing building to provide student quarters, seminar, tutorial, examination and demonstration rooms for the Departments of Neo-natal Paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology | 20,000”; |
and
(b) by omitting from the first, second and third columns of the portion of that Schedule relating to the University of Tasmania the words and figures relating to the Women’s Hospital and inserting in their stead the following words and figures:—
“Women’s Hospital | Provision of clinical teaching facilities, comprising lecture and tutorial rooms, student amenities, student side rooms off wards, library, study rooms and a teaching unit for obstetrics and gynaecology | 90,000 |
