PROVISIONAL REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 19031912.

Amendment to Universal Training Regulations 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 148, and 150.

I, THE GOVERNORGENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby certify that, on account of urgency, the following Regulations under the Defence Act 19031912 should come into immediate operation, and make the Regulations to come into operation forthwith as Provisional Regulations.

REGULATIONS (PROVISIONAL) FOR UNIVERSAL TRAINING

Part V.—Citizen Forces.

Amendments.

Regulation 138—

In the first line for the word " Lieutenants " substitute the words " Second Lieutenants."

Regulation 139—

In the first and last lines for the word " Lieutenant " substitute the words " Second Lieutenant."

Regulation 140—

In the 15th line of U. T. Regulation 140, before the word " Lieutenant " insert " Second Lieutenant."

Regulation 141—

In line 4 and after the word " years " delete the words " commissioned service " and substitute the words " service as lieutenants."

Insert new paragraph at bottom of page 25—

" Second Lieutenants will be eligible to compete for and receive promotion to the rank of Lieutenant after twelve months' service in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. The examination for the rank of Lieutenant shall be competitive only in determining the seniority of candidates on promotion as provided by Regulation 143. All Second Lieutenants who pass the examination for rank of Lieutenant will be eligible for promotion to that rank."

Regulation 142—

Line 20, before the word " Lieutenant " insert " Second Lieutenant."

Regulation 148—

Line 4, for the words " Lieutenants   ...     ... 5 years " substitute " 2nd Lieutenants and Lieutenants   ...     ...  8 years."

Regulation 150—

For the word " Lieutenant " in line 14 substitute the words " 2nd Lieutenant."
