CITATION

1. This notice may be cited as Torres
 Strait Fisheries Management
 Notice No 49.

5. Fisheries Management Notice No.
 40, dated 25 February 1994, is
 amended by deleting paragraph
 9.1 and substituting the following:

 "9.1 Pursuant to paragraph 16(1)(a)
  of the Act:

  (a) the taking of prawns is
   prohibited:

   (i) in the area of the prawn
    fishery during the period
    commencing at 0600
    hours local time on
    1 December in any year
    and ending at 1700 hours
    local time on 1 March in
    the following year; and


 

COMMENCEMENT

2. This Notice commences on
Gazettal.

APPLICATION

3. This Notice applies in the area of
 the Torres Strait prawn fishery.

INTERPRETATION

4.1 In this notice, "the Act" means the
 Torres Strait Fisheries Act 1984.

4.2 Terms defined in the Torres Strait
 Fisheries Act 1984 and the Torres
 Strait Fisheries Regulations have
 the same meanings in this Notice.

   (ii) in that part of the area of
    the prawn fishery that is
    within the area specified
    in Schedule 5, during the
    period commencing at
    1700 hours local time on
    1 March in any year and
    ending at 1700 hours
    local time on 31 July in
    the same year; and

 (b) the carrying of prawns is
  prohibited in the area of the
  prawn fishery during the
  period commencing at 0600
  hours local time on
  15 December in any year
  and ending at 1700 hours
  local time on 1 March in the
  following year."
