STATUTORY RULES.

1959. No. 84.

REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1950.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1950.

AMENDMENTS OF THE TELEGRAPH REGULATIONS.†

Commencement.

1. These Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of October, 1959.

Supply of telegram forms.

2. Regulation 11 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the word “sixpence” and inserting in its stead the words “One shilling”.

Registered code addresses.

3. Regulation 21 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “Three pounds three shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Five pounds”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “Six shillings”, “Twelve shillings” and “Three pounds three shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Ten shillings”, “One pound” and “Five pounds”, respectively;

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words “Three pounds three shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Five pounds”;

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (9.) the words “two shillings and sixpence” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Four shillings”;

(e) by omitting from sub-regulation (10.) the words “Two shillings and sixpence” and inserting in their stead the words “Four shillings”; and

(f) by omitting from sub-regulation (11.) the words “Three shillings and sixpence” and “Seven shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Six shillings” and “Twelve shillings”, respectively.

Method of paying charges.

4. Regulation 39 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1B.) the word “twopence” and inserting in its stead the word “Sixpence”.

Acknowledgment of delivery.

5. Regulation 56 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the word “Threepence” and inserting in its stead the word “Sixpence”.

Multiple telegrams.

6. Regulation 58 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the word “Ninepence” and inserting in its stead the words “One shilling and sixpence”; and

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (7.) the word “Fivepence” and inserting in its stead the word “Ninepence”.

Copies of press telegrams.

7. Regulation 58A of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting the word “fivepence” and inserting in its stead the word “Ninepence”.

Supply of copies of telegrams.

8. Regulation 58B of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (d) the word “Ninepence” and inserting in its stead the words “One shilling and sixpence”; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (e) the word “Tenpence” and inserting in its stead the words “Two shillings”.

Telegrams available for inspection—certified copies obtainable.

9. Regulation 68 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (4.) the words “One shilling” (wherever occurring) and the words “Two shillings and sixpence” and inserting in their stead the words “One shilling and sixpence” and “Four shillings and sixpence”, respectively;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the word “Threepence” and inserting in its stead the word “Sixpence”; and

“(b) an amount equal to the charge payable for the transmission, between the telegraph offices concerned, of an ordinary telegram of the same length as the copy or extract.”.

10. Regulation 72 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “One pound one shilling” and inserting in their stead the words “One pound ten shillings”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “Two shillings and sixpence” (wherever occurring) and the words “One pound one shilling” and inserting in their stead the words “Six shillings” and “One pound ten shillings”, respectively;

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words “One pound one shilling” and inserting in their stead the words “One pound ten shillings”; and

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (8.) the words “two shillings and sixpence” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “Four shillings”.

Telephoning of telegrams by subscribers.

11. Regulation 75 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-regulation (5.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(5.) Where a message accepted for transmission as a telegram under the last preceding sub-regulation is telephoned from a place to a telegraph office over a trunk line, there shall be payable, in addition to the charge for the transmission of the telegram—

(a) a fee of Sixpence; and

(b) a fee equal to the charge payable for a trunk line call of three minutes duration from that place to that telegraph office at the time the message is so telephoned or a fee of One shilling and sixpence, whichever is the smaller fee.”; and

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (7.) the words “paragraph (b) of”.

Telephoning and delivery of telegrams addressed to telephone numbers.

12. Regulation 76 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (4.) the words “Six pence” and inserting in their stead the words “One shilling and sixpence”.

Collection of phonogram charges.

13. Regulation 77 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “one shilling” and the word “sixpence” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “One shilling and sixpence” and the word “Ninepence”, respectively.
