EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
Public Works Committee Act 1969
Public Works Committee Regulations (Amendment)
Statutory Rules 1986 No. 82
(Issued under the authority of the Special Minister of State, the Hon Michael J Young, MP.)
The Public Works Committee Act 1969 provides where the Governor-General is satisfied that an authority of the Commonwealth is engaging in trading or other activities, or is providing services in competition with another body or other bodies, or with persons, the Governor-General may make regulations declaring that the Act does not apply to that authority. The Authorities listed below satisfy the criteria and these statutory rules exempt them from the Public Works Committee Act.
Australian Wool Corporation
Australian Wheat Board
Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation
Australian Dairy Corporation
Australian Canned Fruits Corporation
Australian Dried Fruits Corporation
Australian Apple and Pear Corporation
Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation
Australian Honey Board
Australian Tobacco Board
The opportunity has been taken, given the large number of authorities that will now be exempted from the application of the Act, to include those authorities in a new schedule to the Regulations. As a consequence of this action, some further minor amendments of a formal nature have been made to reflect current drafting practice.
