REGULATIONS UNDER THE PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1922-1954.*
THE Public Service Board, acting in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the Public Service Act 1922-1954, hereby makes, subject to the approval of the Governor-General, the following Regulations.

Amendments of the Public Service Regulations.†
Commencement.
1.—(1.) Regulation 3 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of July, 1954.

(2.) The amendment effected by paragraph (a) of regulation 8 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of November, 1954.
(3.) The amendment effected by paragraph (b) of regulation 8 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of July, 1954.
Recording and payment of overtime.
2. Regulation 67 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation 14 the words "Twelve shillings and sixpence" and inserting in their stead the words "Thirteen shillings".
Allowances to Veterinary Officers and Meat Inspectors.
3. Regulation 79b of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting the table in sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following table:—

Allowances to persons sleeping on office premises.
4. Regulation 95 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (2.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulations:—
"(2.) The Chief Officer may grant an allowance not exceeding Two pounds per week to an officer of the Postmaster-General's Department who, in addition to his ordinary duty, is required to perform telephone duties at night and, for that purpose, sleeps on official premises.
"(3.) Where the Chief Officer considers that the maximum amount payable under the last preceding sub-regulation should, by reason of the extent of the telephone duties performed by the officer, be increased, he shall report the matter to the Board and the Board may determine, the allowance to be paid to the officer.
Reimbursement of fares— remote districts.
5. Regulation 98 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1.) the word "sixteen" and inserting in its stead the word "eighteen".
Reimbursement of fares—illness or accident— remote districts.
6. Regulation 98a of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (iii) of paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (1.) the word "sixteen" and inserting in its stead the word "eighteen".
Rates and conditions of district allowances.
7. Regulation 101 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (3.) the word "sixteen" and inserting in its stead the word "eighteen".
Examinations accepted in the case of returned soldiers.
8.—(1.) Regulation 159 of the Public Service Regulations is amended—
(a) by inserting in sub-regulation (1.), after the words—
"The Cambridge University Junior Local Examination.",
the words—
"The School Certificate Examination held by Cambridge University.
The Higher School Certificate Examination held by Cambridge University."; and
(b) by adding at the end of sub-regulation (1.) the words—
"The final examination the passing of which is a qualification for admission as a member of—
Association of Accountants of Australia (Incorporated).
Australian Society of Accountants.
Commonwealth Institute of Accountants.
Federal Institute of Accountants.
Institute of Incorporated Accountants of New South Wales.
Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
International Institute of Accountancy (Incorporated).
The final examination the passing of which is a qualification for registration as a registered public accountant under the Public Accountants Registration Act, 1945–1951 of the State of New South Wales.".
