STATUTORY RULES 1983 NO 55
PUBLIC SERVICE REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT)
Issued with the authority of the Public Service Board
Paragraph 97(1)(j) of the Public Service Act 1922 provides that the Public Service Board may, with the approval of the Governor-General, make regulations to prescribe the allowances which may be paid to officers and employees.
Regulation 98 of the Public Service Regulations provided for the reimbursement, subject to an officer contribution, of the cost of fares incurred by officers stationed in isolated districts in respect of travel by themselves and their dependants from their station while on leave.
The statutory rules repealed regulation 98. On repeal, Public Service Board Determination No 22 of 1982 came into operation. The determination, which replaces and extends the conditions of service provided by regulation 98, implements the final part of a new package of conditions of service for staff in remote localities, earlier parts of which are contained in previous determinations. The package was agreed by the Board and the Australian Council of Trade Unions on 21 September 1982.
Although Determination 1982/22 provides conditions which are in some respects more generous than those provided by regulation 98, the Attorney-General’s Department has advised that it is not in breach of the Salaries and Wages Pause Act 1982, on the basis that it gives effect to an agreement entered into before the Act came into operation.
