REGULATIONS UNDER THE PUBLIC SERVICE

ACT 1922-1951.*

THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD, acting in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the Public Service Act 1922-1951, hereby makes, subject to the approval of the Governor-General, the following Regulations.

Amendments of the Public Service Regulations.†

Salaries of officers of the Third Division.

1. Regulation 105 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulations :—

" (9.) The scale of rates of annual salary payable to an officer who occupies an office of Medical Officer is—

£1,124–£1,184–£1,244–£1,304–£1,366–£1,428–£1,490–£1,552–£1,614–£1,676–£1,738.

" (10.) The scale of rates of annual salary payable to an officer who occupies an office of Medical Officer (Health Laboratories) or Medical Officer (Serum Laboratories) is—

£1,124–£1,184–£1,244–£1,304–£1,360–£1,428–£1,490–£1,552–£1,614–£1,676–£1,738–£1,862–£1,924.

" (11.) The scale of rates of annual salary payable to an officer who occupies an office of Senior Resident Medical Officer, Medical Officer, Branch Office, or Officer-in-charge, Outpatients' Clinic, Brisbane or Perth, is—

" (12.) The scale of rates of annual salary payable to an officer who occupies an office of Resident Medical Officer is—

Allowances in addition to salary.

2. Regulation 105a of the Public Service Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words " Alice Springs and Maree, South Australia " and inserting in their stead the words " Alice Springs, Northern Territory ".

Salaries of officers of the Fourth Division.

3. Regulation 106 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by inserting after sub-regulation (4.) the following sub-regulations:—

" (4a.) The annual salary payable to a female officer who has not attained the age of twenty-one years and who occupies an office of Assistant (Drafting), Grade 1, Assistant, Grade 1, Assistant (Meteorological Branch), Clerical Assistant, Grade 1, Clerk, Indexer, Junior Assistant, Junior Postal Officer, Laboratory Attendant, Mail Officer, Postal Assistant, Postal Assistant (Mail), Postal Officer or Statistical Tabulator, Grade , is—

Variations of salary on account of variations in cost of living.

4. Regulation 106a is amended by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (4.) the words '' specified in relation to that office in the Fifth Schedule to these Regulations " and inserting in their stead the words " determined by the Board in pursuance of section 32 of the Act in respect of that office ". . .

Examinations accepted in case of returned soldiers.

5.—(1.) Regulation 159 of the Public Service Regulations is amended by adding at the end of sub-regulation (1.) the following words :—

" The Preliminary Examination held by the Pharmacy Board of Victoria.".

(2.) Sub-regulation (1.) of this regulation shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of November, 1952.

The Fourth Schedule.

6. The Fourth Schedule to the Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting designation numbers 26, 204, 314, 424, 479, 546, 573, 596 and 681 and the particulars opposite to those numbers ;

(b) by omitting designation numbers 2, 61, 74, 90, 151. 207, 236, 252, 288, 315, 319, 522, 523, 535, 557, 572, 587 and

747 and the particulars opposite to each of those numbers and inserting in their stead, respectively, the following designation numbers and particulars :—

The Fifth Schedule.

7. The Fifth Schedule to the Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting, before the designation of the office of " Boatman " and the allowances specified opposite to that office, the following designation of office and allowance:—

" Assistant Warehouseman Printing Branch, Department of the Treasury

1. He shall be paid an allowance at the rate of 10s. per week while in charge of two or more journeymen ";

(b) by omitting the allowance specified opposite the designation of the office of " Postal Officer " and inserting in its stead the following allowance :—

" 1. He shall, whilst employed in the city section at the Chief Office, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth, be paid, under such conditions as are, from time to time, approved by the Board, an allowance equal to the difference between his salary and the salary which would be payable to him from time to time if the scale of rates of annual salary of the office was—

£470–£494–£506–£518–£530–£542–£554 ";

(c) by omitting the designations of the offices of " Supervising Technician, Grade 1, Supervising Technician, Grade 2, Supervising Technician, Grade 3, Supervising Technician, Grade 4, Supervising Technician, Grade 5, Supervising Technician, Grade 6, Supervising Technician, Grade 7," and " Supervising Technician (Mail) " and the allowances specified opposite to those offices, and inserting in their stead the following designations of office and allowances :—

	1. He may be paid an allowance at the rate of £12 per annum if—
	(a) he is employed at—
	(i) a carrier repeater station ;
	(ii) a carrier terminal station ;
	(iii) a trunk line testing station ;
" Supervising Technician, Grade 1	(iv) a telegraph repeating station ;
Supervising Technician, Grade 2	(v) a chief telegraph, office on telegraph maintenance duties ;
Supervising Technician, Grade 3
Supervising Technician, Grade 4	(vi) a national broadcasting station ; or
Supervising Technician, Grade 5
	(vii) an overseas radio terminal ;
Supervising Technician, Grade 6
	(b) he has demonstrated his proficiency to send and receive morse signals at the rate of twenty words per minute ; and
Supervising Technician, Grade 7
	(c) the Superintending Engineer has certified that the officer is required, in the performance of his duties, to send and receive messages by morse signals

	2. He may be paid an allowance at the rate of £12 per annum under such conditions as are, from time to time, approved by the Board if—
	(a) He is employed on mail handling plant in the Mail Branch; and
	(b) he has passed an examination in the subject of traffic procedure in operation in the Mail Branch ";

(d) by omitting the allowance specified opposite the designation of the office of " Accounting Machinist (Female), Grade 1 " and inserting in its stead the following allowance:—

" 1. An officer who has not attained the age of twenty-one years and who passes, to the satisfaction of the Board, a test conducted, by or on behalf of the Board for this purpose, shall be paid an allowance at the rate of £36 per annum ";

(e) by omitting the allowances specified opposite the designation of the office of " Folder (Female), Printing Branch, Department of the Treasury " and inserting in their stead the following allowances:—

" 1. She shall be paid an allowance at the rate of £12 per annum if employed as a sewer

2. She shall ho paid an allowance at the rate of 10s. per week while in charge of two or more Folders (Female)

3. She shall be paid an allowance equal to the difference between her actual salary and the actual minimum salary payable from time to time to an adult officer who occupies an office of Folder (Female) if—

(a) she has completed five years' service in an office of Folder (Female) ;

(b) she has not attained the ago of twenty-one years ; and

(c) her salary is less than the actual minimum salary payable to an adult officer who occupies an office of Folder (Female) "; and

(f) by inserting, after the designation of the office of " Monitor (Female) " and the allowance specified opposite to that office, the following designation of office and allowance:—

" Phonogram Operator (Female)

1. She shall be paid an allowance at the rate of £12 per annum on evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of ability to accept by telephone, in fifteen minutes, ten typical telegrams, averaging an equivalent of six message units per telegram, and to record such telegrams by typewriter in the standard manner laid down by the Chief Officer ".
