Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park

PROHIBITION OF ENTRY TO PART OF THE PARK

ULURU ROCK OUTCROP

I, Anna Morgan, Assistant Secretary, Parks Australia Division, Department of Environment, delegate of the power of the Director of National Parks under subregulation 12.23(3) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000, having taken into account that access to that part of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park being the Uluru Rock Outcrop might endanger public safety HEREBY PROHIBIT entry to that part of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park being the Uluru Outcrop described in the Schedule hereto by all persons at all times specified in the Schedule.

AND I HEREBY REVOKE the previous prohibition made on 3rd September 2012 in respect of the area described in the Schedule.

SCHEDULE

Prohibited Area

That part of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park being all of the Uluru Rock Outcrop, as indicated by the shaded area in the plan below.

Prohibited Times

(a)   From:

1. 5:00pm until 7:00am on the following day from 1 March to 30 November, and
2. 5:00pm to 6.30am on the following day from 1 December to 28 February (or 29 February in leap years)

(b)   Subject to paragraph (d), after 8.00am on days when the forecast maximum temperature for Yulara issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at 4.00pm the previous day is 36 degrees Celsius or greater

(c)    Subject to paragraph (d) when the actual temperature at the base of the Uluru rock outcrop is 36 degrees Celsius or greater

(d)   From 1 December to 28 February (or 29 February in leap years) inclusive, after 8.00am each day

(e)   When more than 20% of the rock surface is wet due to rainfall

(f)     When there is a greater than 20% chance of rain in the subsequent 3 hours

(g)   When there is a greater than 5% chance of thunderstorms in the subsequent 3 hours

(h)   When the wind speed at the summit of Uluru exceeds 25 knots

(i)      When cloud covers the summit of Uluru

(j)      When the rescue of a person from the Uluru rock outcrop is in progress
