DECLARATION AND DETERMINATION UNDER THE POLICE OVERSEAS SERVICE MEDAL REGULATIONS 2007 AND SUBSEQUENT AMENDMENTS

I, PETER COSGROVE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting on the recommendation of the Minister for Justice and the Minister assisting the Prime Minister for Counter Terrorism, and under the Police Overseas Service Medal Regulations of 2007 and subsequent amendments, hereby;

1. declare, under regulation 3, the period of overseas capacity-building service undertaken by Australian police on duty in the Papua New Guinea Enhanced Cooperation Program, being a period commencing not earlier than 1 July 2004 and being completed not later than 13 May 2005 as prescribed service, for the purposes of the Regulations.

2.      determine, under sub regulation 4(2), that the conditions for the award for prescribed service in the Papua New Guinea Enhanced Cooperation Program are that the Medal may be awarded to persons included in sub regulation 4(4), who rendered prescribed service for:

1. a period of 90 days;

b.      two or more periods that amount to 90 days; or

c.      a period less than 90 days if;

1. the prescribed service was terminated because of the death of the member or person, illness or injury, or other disability due to service; or

ii.            the prescribed service was terminated for Government or law enforcement reasons.

3.   For sub regulation 4(3), the clasp to the Medal, for a person qualifying under sub regulation 4(4) is a clasp with "PNGECP" on it.
