Passports Regulations (Amendment)
Section 12 of the Passports Act 1938 (the Act) provides that the Govcrnor-Gencral may make regulations for the purposes of the Act.
Regulation 13 of the Passports Regulations provides that fees am payable in respect of passports and travel documents as specified in Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations.
The purpose of these amendments is to give effect to the Government's decision to achieve greater cost recovery for passport issue. The changes are proposed to take effect on 1 October 1996.
The amendments also specify, under a new Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations, the revised fees to be charged for the issue and renewal of, and the placement of, observations on travel documents.
The fee charged for the issue of an ordinary passport for an adult, for example, has been increased from $110.00 to $120.00.
