Order to Establish the Net Zero Economy Agency as an Executive Agency
I, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council and under section 65 of the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth):
a) establish the Net Zero Economy Agency as an Executive Agency;
b) allocate the name Net Zero Economy Agency to the Executive Agency;
c) allocate the name Chair to the Head of the Executive Agency;
d) identify the Prime Minister as the Minister responsible for the Executive Agency;
e) specify the functions of the Net Zero Economy Agency be as follows:
- promoting orderly and positive economic transformation associated with decarbonisation and energy system change by;
- developing and coordinating the delivery of government strategies to support regional communities and workers with net zero related economic transformation
- supporting workers in emissions-intensive sectors to access new employment, skills and other opportunities
- facilitating investors and companies to engage with the net zero transformation of regional industries and communities
- advising the Government on the establishment of a new statutory Authority to promote, coordinate and facilitate the transformation
- reporting regularly to the Prime Minister, Treasurer and Minister for Climate Change and Energy on progress on net zero economic transformation and government responses
- undertaking other relevant tasks the Minister may require from time to time.
The Order will commence on 1 July 2023.
