The Governor-General is pleased to announce the following honorary appointment within the Military Division of the Order of Australia:

 

 

ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

 

 

Honorary Officer (AO) in the Military Division

 

Lieutenant General John Aloysius TOOLAN USMC (Retd), United States of America

For distinguished service to the military relationship between Australia and the United States of America by establishing the Marine Forces Rotation program, and in recognition of his efforts to enhance the Australian Defence Force amphibious capability.

APPOINTED AN HONORARY OFFICER (AO)

 

IN THE MILITARY DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

 

 

 

Lieutenant General John Aloysius TOOLAN USMC (Retd), United States of America

For distinguished service to the military relationship between Australia and the United States of America by establishing the Marine Forces Rotation program, and in recognition of his efforts to enhance the Australian Defence Force amphibious capability.

 

Lieutenant General Toolan made a significant and highly valued contribution to the development of Australian Defence Force capabilities and the further expansion and deepening of the bilateral defence and security relationship between Australia and the United States.  He engaged both countries’ political and military leaders to promote and facilitate the establishment of the Marine Forces Rotation in Darwin.  He also provided vital support to enable the Australian Defence Force to more rapidly and effectively introduce the enhanced amphibious capability into service.
