NOTICE OF APPLICATION RECEIVED UNDER THE
HAZARDOUS WASTE (REGULATION OF EXPORTS AND IMPORTS) ACT 1989

Pursuant to Section 33 of the Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1989, notice is given that an application has been received from Victorian Ferries Pty Ltd (ACN 106 892 657), 2A Union Street, Kew, Victoria, 3101 (Telephone +61 4 2574 5324; Facsimile +61 3 9855 1119).

The application relates to the export of up to 5000 tonnes of Aluminium Saltcake Residue (Basel Codes A1020 and A1030) to the facility operated by Jin Won Industry Co. Ltd, located at 50-24, Seobu-ro, 1541, Juchon-myon, Kimhae City, Kyoungsangnamdo in the Republic of Korea. The waste is destined for recovery operation R4 – Recycling/reclamation of metals and metal compounds.

The waste will be transported by road to either Brisbane or Gladstone, and from there, shipped by sea in bulk to Busan, the Republic of Korea.

The transboundary movement would take place in up to 25 shipments during the time period specified in the permit, if granted.

Written comments on the permit application may be lodged with the Department within 28 days of publication of this notice. Comments should be addressed to the Director, Hazardous Waste Section, Department of the Environment, GPO Box 787 CANBERRA ACT 2601, or forwarded by email to hwa@environment.gov.au. Respondents should be aware that comments will be shared with the applicant and should not contain commercial-in-confidence information.
