PROVISIONAL REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVAL DEFENCE ACT 1910.
Regulations (Provisional) for the Naval Forces of the Commonwealth—Part II., Permanent Naval Forces, Section VI., Uniforms—Amendment.
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby certify that, on account of urgency, the following Regulations under the Naval Defence Act 1910 should come into immediate operation, and make the Regulations to come into operation accordingly as Provisional Regulations.

REGULATIONS FOR THE NAVAL FORCES OF THE COMMONWEALTH.
Amendments.
Part II.—Permanent Naval Forces.
Section VI.—Uniforms.
Regulations 78, 79, 80, 81 and Table I. are hereby cancelled, and the following substituted therefor:—
78. Officers shall wear the uniform prescribed in the Uniform Regulations for Officers of the Royal Navy, with the exception that the buttons are to be of the special design adopted for the Permanent Naval Forces.
Officers of the Royal Navy serving temporarily in the Permanent Naval Forces shall wear the distinctive stripes according to the rank held by them in the Permanent Naval Forces, but will not be required to alter the buttons of their uniform.
79. The uniform for Petty Officers, Men, and Boys is to be the same as in the Royal Navy, except as provided in Tables I., II., and III., and except that cap ribbons shall bear the designation H.M.A. Naval Forces or H.M.A.S. followed by the name of the ship to which the member may be attached.
80. The Kit for Petty Officers, Men, and Boys shall be as prescribed in Tables I., II., and III.
81. Boys in the Training Ship shall wear the uniform prescribed in the Training Ship Regulations.

(3) Each man will be supplied with 2 Hammocks, 1 set of Clews, 1 Lashing, 1 Bed, 1 Blanket, and 2 Bed Covers on joining, for which he will be responsible. When a man leaves the Service these articles are to be returned to the Accountant Officer, who will take them on charge.
(4) Brown canvas shoes may be worn on board with white trousers.

Notes—
(1) Cloth Suits are not Compulsory for Officers’ Stewards and Cooks, 3rd Class.

(3) Officers’ Stewards will not wear a distinguishing Badge of Rating on the right arm.

PART III.
Section VI.—Uniforms.
Regulation 139 is hereby cancelled, and the following substituted therefor:—
139. Officers of the Naval Reserve, late Naval Militia, appointed prior to 1st July, 1911, shall wear the uniform prescribed for Officers of the Royal Australian Navy, with the following modifications:—
(a) Officers of the Military Branch, in place of the loop worn on the upper stripe, a triangle is to be substituted, of ¾-inch inside diameter. Officers of other Branches will wear a gold star, of the same dimensions as that worn on the epaulettes, on the centre of the cuff, 1 inch above the distinguishing stripe or stripes.
(b) Commissioned Warrant Officers to wear ½-inch lace, with same device.
(c) Warrant Officers over ten years seniority to wear ¼-inch lace with same device.
(d) Other Warrant Officers the same as at (c), but with buttons on the sleeves of coat instead of lace.
(e) Officers are not obliged to provide themselves with full dress. No. 3 dress may be worn by such officers in lieu of No. 1, on occasions when otherwise No. 1 would be ordered.
