EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

STATUTORY RULES 1984 NO. 441

ISSUED BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE MINISTER FOR DEFENCE

AMENDMENT OF THE NAVAL FINANCIAL REGULATIONS

Section 12 of the Defence Amendment Act 1979 provides that the Minister may make interim determinations amending or repealing regulations. The Act also deems such interim determinations to be Statutory Rules.

Regulation 211 of the Naval Financial Regulations provides for the payment of meal allowance to members of the Navy. These Statutory Rules repeal Regulation 211, which has been replaced by Determination 0506, Meal Allowance, made under Section 58B of the Defence Act 1903 and make a necessary consequential amendment to Schedule 3 of those Regulations.

Regulation 230 of the Naval Financial Regulations provides for members of the Navy to contribute towards the cost of fares when they travel on leave. These Statutory Rules repeal regulation 230.

The date of effect is the date on which Determination 0506 is made.
