HEAVY VEHICLE NATIONAL LAW
NATIONAL HEAVY VEHICLE STANDARDS (G20) EXEMPTION (NOTICE) 2014 (No. 1)
Purpose
- The purpose of this notice is to exempt a heavy vehicle that is being used to provide transport or support during the 2014 G20 meetings from the requirements of the Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation (the National Regulation).
Authorising Provision
2. This notice is made under section 61 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law as in force in each participating jurisdiction.
Commencement
3. This notice commences on 16 August 2014.
Expiry
4. This notice expires on 17 December 2014.
Definitions
5. Unless otherwise stated, words and expressions used in this notice have the same meanings as those defined in the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
6. In this notice:
G20 meeting has the meaning given in the G20 (Safety and Security) Act 2013 (Qld).
G20 participant has the meaning given in the G20 (Safety and Security) Act 2013 (Qld).
Title
7. This notice may be cited as the National Heavy Vehicle Standards (G20) Exemption (Notice) 2014 (No. 1).
Application
8. This notice applies only in Queensland.
9. This notice applies to a heavy vehicle that is being used to provide transport or support to a G20 participant as part of a G20 event.
10. This notice also applies to a heavy vehicle that is being used as part of preparation, training or maintenance for use as specified in clause 9 above.
Exemption from Prescribed Vehicle Standards
11. A heavy vehicle described in clause 9 is exempt from complying with the requirements of the National Regulation.
Conditions
12. An imported heavy vehicle that operates under this notice must have been issued with a Vehicle Import Approval by the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development under the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (Cth) that allows the vehicles to be used on roads.
13. A vehicle operating under this notice must be maintained in a safe condition.
14. A vehicle operating under this notice must be covered by the Comcover Insurance Policy issued for the G20 event.
Note - The driver of a heavy vehicle operating under this notice does not need to carry a copy of this notice or an information sheet for this notice in the vehicle.
Declaration
I, Salvatore Petroccitto, delegate of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator hereby exempt the heavy vehicles specified in this notice from the stated requirements of the Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation to the extent and on the conditions specified in this notice.
