EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

Migration Regulations 1994

ORGANISATIONS THAT MAY SPONSOR SHORT STAY BUSINESS VISITORS

(REGULATION 459.214(c))

1. This Instrument is made under regulation 1.17 and paragraph 459.214(c) of Schedule 2 to the Migration Regulations 1994 (‘the Regulations’).

2.                  Regulation 1.17 of the Regulations provides that the Minister may, by notice published in the Gazette, specify matters required by individual provisions of the Regulations to be specified for the purposes of those provisions.

2.                  Paragraph 459.214(c) of the Regulations provides that an applicant for a Sponsored  Business Visitor (Short Stay) (Subclass 459) visa may be sponsored by an organisation specified in a Gazette Notice for the purposes of that paragraph. is the general power to specify matters by way of Gazette Notice and paragraph 459.214(c) of Schedule 2 to the Regulations provides that the Minister may specify an organisation by Gazette Notice that can sponsor short stay business visitors.

3.                  The purpose of the Instrument is to specify the organisations that may sponsor an applicant for a Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) visa. broaden the sponsorship base of eligible sponsoring organisations.

4.5.            The Instrument operates to add Kingston International College Pty Ltd, BJ Services Company (Australia) Pty Ltd, BJ Process and Pipeline Services (Australia) Pty Ltd, Gulfx Ltd and Lion Energy Limited Romanian Apostolic Pentecostal Church Perth,   WorleyParsons Services Pty Limited, Halliburton Australia Pty Ltd, Zensar Technologies Limited, Production Services Network Pty Limited and Arabic Expo Pty Ltd to the list of organisations that may sponsor short stay business visitors to come to Australia to undertake genuine business-related activities.

6.  5. As this Instrument is likely to have a direct, or substantial indirect, effect on business, external consultations were previously undertaken with:

7. 6. The Instrument, IMMI 06/07658, commences on the day after it is registrationered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
