MIGRATION AGENTS
(CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT –
AUTHORSHIP AND PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES)
MARA NOTICE 37 OF 2003
The Migration Agents Registration Authority, acting under clause 3 of Schedule 1 to the Migration Agents Regulations 1998:
(1) REVOKES the notice entitled Migration Agents (Continuing Professional
Development - Authorship and Publication of Articles) MARA Notice 28 of 2003, published on 9/07/2003; and
(2) SPECIFY that the authorship and publication of a detailed article of at least 1,000 words in a journal or magazine described in column 2 of an item in the attached Schedule is an approved activity for the purposes of that clause and that that activity is:
(a) a core activity having the value of 1 point, if the article;
(i) relates specifically to the Migration Act 1958, the Migration Regulations and other legislation relating to migration procedure or migration portfolio policies and procedures; and
(ii) contributes in a positive manner to the development and practice of immigration law; and
(iii) has not been previously published in substantially the same form; and
is not the published version of a paper, or of papers, presented at another approved activity for which the author has been awarded a point; or
(b) an elective activity having the value of 1 point, if the article:
(i) deals with a topic of a legal or business nature relating to migration agents’ practice; and
(ii) complies with subparagraphs 2(a) (i), (ii) and (iii).
This notice has effect on and from 1 April 1998.

[Note: (1) Clause 3 of Schedule 1 to the Migration Agents Regulations 1998 allows the Authority to specify, by notice published on its website, approved activities, including: the name of the activity; the provider (if any) of the activity; whether the activity is a core activity or an elective activity; and the number of points for each activity.]
