KAKADU NATIONAL PARK

DETERMINATION OF A CAMPING AREA (SOUTH ALLIGATOR) 2026

I, Jonathan McLeod, Branch Head of Kakadu National Park and Cultural Heritage Branch, Parks Australia Division, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, delegate of the Director of National Parks, acting pursuant to sub regulations 12.28 (3) and (4) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2025, DETERMINE that:

1.      the area of the Commonwealth reserve known as Kakadu National Park, and described in Schedule 1 to this determination, is a camping area, to be known as South Alligator Camping Area; and
2.      the South Alligator Camping Area is subject to the conditions set out in Schedule 2 to this determination.

This determination commences on the day after it is registered.

SCHEDULE 1

DESCRIPTION OF CAMPING AREA

SOUTH ALLIGATOR CAMPING AREA – KAKADU NATIONAL PARK

The area of land within the Commonwealth reserve of Kakadu National Park, being the area described below as South Alligator Camping Area bounded by the line indicated on the map below and by the GPS coordinates below:

• Commencing at a point indicated by the grid reference 226,402E 859,7696N a point defined by track junction;
• thence heading in a south-east direction for 367 meters to a point indicated by grid reference 226,664E 859,7437N a point defined by track junction;
• thence heading in a south-west direction for 632 meters to a point indicated by grid reference 226,210E 859,6997N a point defined by track junction;
• thence heading in a north-west direction for 365 meters to a point indicated by grid reference 225,953E 859,7256N a point defined by track junction; and
• thence heading in a north-east direction for 628 meters to the point of commencement.

SCHEDULE 2

CONDITIONS OF CAMPING AREA

SOUTH ALLIGATOR CAMPING AREA – KAKADU NATIONAL PARK

For the South Alligator Camping Area:

1.      The maximum number of persons who may camp in the camping area at the same time is 80 persons.
2.      The maximum number of camping sites in the South Alligator Camping Area that may be occupied at the same time is 16 camping sites.
3.      The maximum number of tents that may be used on the one camping site at the same time is 32 tents.
4.      The maximum number of persons on the one camping site at the same time is 5 persons.
5.      The nature of equipment permitted on the camping site are self-sufficient campervans and camper trailers, and boat trailers.
6.      Portable generators are permitted in the South Alligator Camping Area in designated generator areas.
7.      The South Alligator Camping Area is subject to the following restrictions:

1.      Digging of trenches is not permitted anywhere in the camping area; and
2.      The use of trees or structures are not permitted anywhere in the camping area
