INVITATION TO COMMENT ON THE HMS SIRIUS SHIPWRECK HERITAGE MANAGEMENT PLAN 2018-2022

prepared for the conservation of National and Commonwealth Heritage Values

The archaeological remains of HMS Sirius represent a tangible link to the most significant vessel associated with early migration of European people to Australia. The Hon Josh Frydenberg, Minister for the Environment and Energy, the Hon Dr John McVeigh MP, Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, and the Norfolk Island Regional Council have prepared a draft management plan for 2018-2022, the HMS Sirius Shipwreck Heritage Management Plan 2018-2022 (the Plan). The draft Plan is intended to replace the HMS Sirius Shipwreck Heritage Management Plan 1993, to protect and manage the site’s Commonwealth Heritage and National Heritage values.

Under sections 324S(6)(a) and 341S(6)(b) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the Hon Josh Frydenberg, Minister for the Environment and Energy, and the Hon Dr John McVeigh MP, Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, invite comments on the draft replacement management plan from members of the public, including Indigenous peoples with rights and interests in the place and from the Administrator of Norfolk Island.

The draft Plan can be viewed during opening hours [Monday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm] in the Sirius Museum, Kingston, Norfolk Island.

The Plan is also available in an electronic format and can be accessed via: http://kavha.gov.au/heritage-management/publications_and_projects/index.aspx

The closing date for public comment is 5.00pm AEST, on Monday 17 September 2018.
