INVITATION TO COMMENT ON A DRAFT SOUTH-EAST MARINE PARKS NETWORK MANAGEMENT PLAN

Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999

Notice under subsection 368(5)

The Director of National Parks (Director) has prepared a Draft Management Plan for the South-east Marine Parks Network. Once finalised, this plan will guide management of the Network for 10 years. Members of the public are invited to comment on this Draft Management Plan. The previous Management Plan (South-east Commonwealth Marine Reserves Network Management Plan 2013-23) expired on 30 June 2023.

 

The South-east Marine Parks Network comprises the following 14 Commonwealth Reserves:

 

1.      East Gippsland Marine Park

2.      Beagle Marine Park

3.      Flinders Marine Park

4.      Freycinet Marine Park

5.      Huon Marine Park

6.      South Tasman Rise Marine Park

7.      Tasman Fracture Marine Park

8.      Zeehan Marine Park

9.      Franklin Marine Park

10.  Boags Marine Park

11.  Apollo Marine Park

12.  Nelson Marine Park

13.  Murray Marine Park

14.  Macquarie Island Marine Park

 

We recommend your comments clearly identify the marine park(s) and which part(s) of the draft plan your comments relate to.

 

Comments will be considered by the Director in accordance with section 368(1)(e) of the EPBC Act and will be provided to the Minister for the Environment, in accordance with section 370 of the EPBC Act, together with:

         The Director’s views on the comments, and

         The proposed final Management Plan for the Minister’s approval, including any revisions in response to comments received.

HOW TO COMMENT

Comments must be received no later than 11:30 PM AEDT on Thursday 14 November 2024 through the department’s Have Your Say Portal at the following web address https://consult.dcceew.gov.au/se-marine-parks-network-mgt-plan.

 

Comments submitted after this time or by other means will not be considered by the Director under section 368(1)(e) of the EPBC Act.
