Explanatory Statement – AERU 05-04/ R587B Hours Change

This Restricted Area R587B is currently controlled and activated by RAAF Williamtown on a 24 hour basis. To decrease the likelihood of mis-coordination or incorrect level of service provision, the proponent, Airservices Australia has requested this restricted area to be activated by NOTAM after consultation with the Detachment Commander at RAAF Williamtown.

There is no geographical coordinate change. This will allow Airservices Australia greater opportunity to facilitate civil operations through this airspace as RAAF Williamtown only make use of this airspace 2-3 times a year.

Action:

Change R587B from being active H24 to being activated by NOTAM

Justification:

The area is permanently released to Airservices Australia when Williamtown are active. It is only used by Williamtown approximately 2-3 times a year. Decreases likelihood of mis-coordination or incorrect level of service provision.
