Indian Ocean Territories Redundant Regulations (Repeal) Regulations 2002

The purpose of the Regulations is to repeal the following redundant Regulations applicable in the Territories of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

       Christmas Island (Citizenship) Regulations 1958 and amendment Regulations 1979 No 36 and 1980 No 371. The enabling provisions in the Act were repealed in 1997.

       Christmas Island (Sittings of the Supreme Court) Regulations 1969 and amendment Regulations 1981 No 205. In conjunction with the repeal of these Regulations the Supreme Court Ordinance 1958 is repealed and the Court is abolished by Proclamation.

       Cocos (Keeling) Islands (Citizenship) Regulations 1961 and amendment Regulations 1979 No 39. The enabling provisions in the Act were repealed in 1997.

Details of the Regulations are as follows.

Regulation 1 provides that the name of the Regulations is the Indian Ocean Territories Redundant Regulations (Repeal) Regulations 2002.

Regulation 2 provides that the Regulations commence on gazettal.

Regulation 3 repeals the Christmas Island (Citizenship) Regulations - 1958 No 61, 1979 No 36 and 1980 No 371.

Regulation 4 repeals the Christmas Island (Sittings of the Supreme Court) Regulations - 1969 No 54 and 1981 No 205.

Regulation 5 repeals the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (Citizenship) Regulations - 1961 No 52 and 1979 No 39.
