The Governor-General is pleased to announce the following honorary appointment within the Military Division of the Order of Australia:

ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

Honorary Officer (AO) in the Military Division

General John R Allen, United States Marine Corps, Retired

For distinguished service to the International Campaign Against Terrorism as the Commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan from
18 July 2011 to 10 February 2013.

By His Excellency’s Command

Stephen Brady CVO

Official Secretary to the Governor-General

APPOINTED AN HONORARY OFFICER (AO)

IN THE MILITARY DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

General John R Allen, United States Marine Corps, Retired

For distinguished service to the International Campaign Against Terrorism as the Commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan from
18 July 2011 to 10 February 2013.

General Allen led Coalition forces, including Australian Defence Force members, to great effect in a complex strategic and operational environment.  Under his leadership, the security situation in Afghanistan improved measurably, creating the space for transition of lead security responsibility to Afghan National Security Forces.  His efforts on Australia’s behalf helped secure Australia’s interests in Afghanistan and won the universal confidence of Australian servicemen and women.
