Queensland Class 2 Road Train (Burke Development Road) Authorisation Notice 2017 (No. 1)
- Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to authorise Type-2 road train access to the Burke Development Road from Mungana to the Ootan intersection (west of Almaden), and to Ootan Road in north Queensland.
2. Authorising Provision
This notice is made under section 138 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
3. Commencement
This notice commences on 1 July 2017.
4. Expiry
This notice expires on 30 June 2022.
5. Title
This notice may be cited as the Queensland Class 2 Road Train (Burke Development Road) Authorisation Notice 2017.
6. Definitions
1) Unless otherwise stated, words and expressions used in this Notice have the same meanings as those defined in the HVNL.
2) In this Notice-
Type 2 Road Train has the same meaning as applied in the National Class 2 Heavy Vehicle Road Train Authorisation (Notice) 2015.
7. Application
This Notice applies to Type 2 Road Trains operating on the stated routes and networks set out in this Notice.
8. Stated Routes and Areas
1) This notice applies only to the following roads:
a) Burke Development Road from Mungana to the Ootan intersection (west of Almaden), and
b) to Ootan Road.
Note: current operating status for Ootan road may be obtained by contacting the General Manager for Tablelands Regional Council
9. Operating Conditions
1) Type 2 road trains operating under this notice must conform with the conditions set out in the National Class 2 Heavy Vehicle Road Train Authorisation (Notice) 2015.
2) Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice are not permitted on the Burke Development Road east of the Almaden-Ootan Rd intersection.
3) Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice must only use the Burke Development Roas (Queen Street) to travel through the township of Chillagoe
4) Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice must stop within the boundaries of the township of Chillagoe.
5) Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice must be fitted with and use warning lights that, when switched on:
a) emit a rotating flashing yellow coloured light
b) flash between 120 and 200 times a second; and
c) have a power of at least 55 watts; and
d) not be a strobe light
A warning light when switched on must be clearly visible at a distance of 500m in all directions, or be supplemented by one or more additional warning lights so that the emitting light from at least one of them is visible at a distance of 500m in any direction.
A warning light must only be switched on when the vehicle or combination is travelling or is stationary in a position that is likely to cause danger to other road users.
6) Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice are not to exceed a speed limit of 60kph on:
a) unsealed sections of the Burke Development Road between Chillagoe and the Ootan Road intersection, and
b) Ootan Road.
7) Multi-combination vehicles must not operate in convoy and shall be separated by a minimum distance of 2km.
8) Operators of Type 2 road trains operating under this Notice must use a “call point” contact system at signal points along the approved route. Contact should be made on UHF Channel 40.
